Visiting the Algarve in February can be an excellent option! Whoever thinks that tourists only want to go to the southern region of the country during the Summer, is wrong. The president of Turismo do Algarve said in an interview, that there is a significant increase in the number of reservations for the end of February and for Easter, anticipating that tourist occupancy in the Summer may be close to a normal year or even slightly better.
“Since the restrictions were relieved we have been registering a significant increase in reservations from the United Kingdom and Ireland, for the end of February, as well as for Easter, which predicts that the Summer may be at the level of a normal year,” João Fernandes told Lusa.
According to the president of the Região de Turismo do Algarve (RTA), for the end of February, “a period that coincides with the break for school vacations in the UK, the occupancy rate of airplanes continues to grow, at a time when air connections are above 100 daily flights” at Faro airport.

According to the President, these important signs of recovery began after the lifting of restrictions requiring travelers to test negative for Covid-19 regardless of whether they have been vaccinated. This change reduces the costs associated with travel and increases tourists’ confidence in travel. “The testing requirement ended up being a bigger burden than the cost of the flights themselves,” he said.
In addition to enjoying the Algarve in February, tourists are also focusing on the Easter period in April, and we can already see a good level of bookings coming in, even approaching 2019 figures – the best year ever for the region. “This increase in demand and bookings for the Spring break is a great sign for tourist recovery for the Summer,” comments João Fernandes.

Algarve in February: LovelyStay’s perspective
The Algarve region also attracts tourists during Winter, not only for its natural beauty but also because it maintains an excellent climate compared to the rest of Europe all year round. In the first half of February alone, we went from an average of 18 bookings to 71, which corresponds to a 294% increase. Also, the Easter weekend is already fully booked at several properties, demonstrating travelers’ interest in securing their reservations early.
