On March 18, 2024, in Faro, the “Save Water” Water Efficiency Label was launched as a direct response to the Council of Ministers’ Resolution No. 26-A/2024, issued on February 20, which declares a state of alert due to drought in Algarve, setting forth a specific set of measures for the tourism sector.
01 | What is the “Save Water” Label?

The โSave Waterโ label is not just a certification; itโs also the result of a collaboration between the Algarve Tourism Region, Turismo de Portugal, and ADENE – Energy Agency, aiming for a joint commitment to adopting sustainable tourism practices and highlighting the critical importance of responsible management of this essential resource.
Furthermore, the “Save water, be a futurist” awareness campaign was launched, targeting tourists to encourage them to adopt more responsible behaviours during their stays, emphasizing tourism’s role in water resource conservation.
By voluntarily adopting the label, establishments commit to a set of water efficiency measures, categorized as priority and structural, with the goal of achieving a 15% reduction in water consumption.
02 | Who monitors the implementation of the proposed measures?
ADENE plays a central role in this process, monitoring the adoption of these measures and their water consumption, ensuring that the reduction goals can be met.
The “Save Water” label and associated initiatives position the Algarve as a leading tourist destination that, beyond its natural and cultural beauties, is dedicated to the preservation of its resources and the promotion of more sustainable tourism.
At LovelyStay, we deeply value the conscious management of natural resources, recognizing it not just as an essential element of our commitment as a company but also as a universal responsibility.
