After Braga won the title of best European destination in 2021, now it is Portugal’s turn to become Europe’s Favorite Destination. The voting took place on the European Best Destinations website, which highlighted Braga, Porto, the beaches of Cascais, and the Algarve, Madeira, and the Azores as unmissable places. This recognition is once again the confirmation of the work that has been done and shows that the country continues to be a destination that is on top of the preferences of tourists.

According to the voters, Portugal deserves the title of Europe’s Favorite Destination due to its natural beauty, gastronomic richness, its history rich in tradition, and magnificent beaches. The European Best Destinations website is visited by more than six million travelers per year and has gathered traffic and search data from the last few months to create a ranking of the best countries to visit in 2021.

For tourism, this recognition can be extremely important to attract new international visitors when all this is over. In fact, Portugal is very rich, even though it is a small country. Quoted in the statement issued by Turismo de Portugal, the president of the entity stresses that, “our country has everything for everyone. From north to south, interior or coast and islands, those who visit us want to return. And this ‘ranking’ shows us that, despite everything that has happened in recent months, tourists do not forget Portugal and are eager to return. And we will be here, as always, to welcome them well and safely”, says Luís Araújo.
Also according to the awards, a trip to Portugal is not complete without a visit to Braga, Porto and its historical heritage classified by UNESCO, to the beaches of Cascais and Algarve and, for those who enjoy nature tourism, to the archipelagos of Madeira and Azores.
Besides the election of the country as Europe’s Favorite Destination, the European Best Destinations ranking also included France (2nd place), Greece (3rd place), Italy (4th place), and Croatia (5th place).
