Much has already been said about all the difficulty felt, especially in the tourism sector, during this year 2020. With little traveling worldwide, the crisis has hit several sectors and has caused many people and businesses to reinvent themselves. However, after so many complicated reports, this year will be marked by important Portuguese achievements. After being elected the best European destination by the World Travel Awards – the Oscars of Tourism, the list of the best destinations in the world was recently released. See all Portugal’s awards!
Recently we published a piece of news with the list of the World Travel Awards – Europe edition. See here all the awards won by Portugal.
Even with less tourism, it was possible to vote for the “best destinations” of various categories which were announced in a more timid ceremony, without celebrations, and in an online gala version in Moscow – an excellent seal to promote cities and countries for the year 2021.
Unlike the last three years, this time Portugal has conceded the throne of the “best destination in the world” to the beautiful Maldives. But this change in nothing affected the good result of the awards. The city of Lisbon kept the prize of the best destination in the world for an urban escapade and Madeira the best island for holidays. As a debut, the Algarve was voted the best region in the world for sun and sea.

But Portugal’s awards don’t stop there, and we can count on a list of congratulations for Sintra Parks, Dark Sky Alqueva, Passadiços do Paiva, TAP and even Portuguese luxury hotels. All the recognition is the result of intense work and generous investment in the entire tourism sector. The prospects for 2021 are encouraging and the proposal is that the country continues to be known as a safe country to travel, bringing everything gradually back to normal.
