Last year the new Local Accommodation Registration Containment Areas in Lisbon came into force. As a result, the main tourist areas were unable to receive any new applications for apartments aimed at this public. Although it is easy to find several maps and explanations about these restrictions, LovelyStay has created a more complete tool for you to know for sure which streets and places are restricted to new license applications.
This map was developed by the company’s IT team who, in partnership with the sales department, felt the need to provide customers with an understandable way of understanding all the areas that are part of the regulation. The platform works basically the same way as Google Maps: it is necessary to insert the address of the property to be able to see if it is located inside, or outside, the containment area.

From the map it is possible to see that areas such as Alfama, Bairro Alto, Baixa, Castelo and Avenida da República cannot receive any more registrations. And developments located in Bairro das Colónias and Graça need an exceptional permission from the Lisbon City Hall.
With the containment areas, many other locations are now being exploited for tourism purposes and new segments of apartments have entered the market. More Airbnb options began to appear near the Discoveries area and tourism has been expanding geographically which can contribute to the valorisation of the whole city.
