The hottest month of the year has just come! And although everyone has felt the strong heat wave that has hit Europe in July, the official Summer holiday month is August.

These tips focus on those who are looking for beaches with nice sand, a fantastic ocean for a good dive and, at the same time, close places to explore. See more below.

Zambujeira do Mar

It is one of the most beautiful of the Alentejo Coast and almost doesn’t need an introduction. During the Summer, the beach fills with young people, both national and foreigners. Zambujeira is good for all types of tourists, for it is an excellent place to serve as a starting point to explore the Vicentina Route, one of the most beautiful places in Portugal and the world.

Outside the high season, it is a calm and tranquil place, with an excellent atmosphere both day and night.

Located almost in Setúbal, it is a beautiful beach with transparent blue waters and lots of white sand. As it is very near to Lisbon, it is an excellent option, especially for those who don’t want to have a lot of holidays.

Surely it deserves to be on the top five Summer beaches! The village of Comporta is very beautiful and deserves a visit, such as the Sado estuary, right on its side.

Perfect for those who love to surf, this beach belongs to the municipality of Peniche. With a very organised structure and lots of restaurant options, this is a beach full of young and beautiful people but, at the same time, fit for families. Surfcamps and surf houses are trending, and surfers run on the beaches with their surfboards under their arms.

The Algarve is the favourite destination of both Portuguese and foreigners who are looking for “sun and sea” and, of course, one of the most beautiful beaches in this region needed to be on this top five list. Albufeira’s beach is one of the most popular and frequented on the Algarve coast. The sand is beautiful and it has a lot of movement.

Berlengas Island is a fantastic place for those who want to enjoy Summer in Portugal. With white sand, transparent green sea, caves and even a fortress that looks right out of a film set, the Berlengas have everything so that you can spend a nice weekend or holiday week. It is an excellent destination for those who like diving or snorkelling. Getting there might not be so easy for those who get seasick, but it is surely worth it!
